An Insight on Gas welding:

September 1st, 2010

In gas welding, some hazards happen from fire and explosion. Explosion or fire can happen while using gas welding due to certain reasons:

1. If welder does not handle lighted blow pipe carefully, it can cause burns to him or other workers.

2. If blowpipe is used too close to combustible material.

3. Gas leakage from hoses, valves or other equipments.

4. Misuse of oxygen.

5. Backfires and flashbacks.

Lighted blowpipes are dangerous equipment which can burn the user badly. It can also injure other people and set flammable materials on fire. By following these precautionary steps you can prevent injury

• Always work in a safe location which is away from other people.

• Before starting your work, do wear welding helmet, protective clothes and gauntlets to protect yourself from fire.

• Clamp the work piece, do not hold it by hand.

• Once your work is over, switch off the blowpipe.

Things to look into when you buy an expensive MIG welder

August 31st, 2010

If you notice quality of MIG welders have come down as most of them are manufactured in Eastern Europe and China. If you buy cheap MIG welders you have to compromise on functionality. The major advantage of buying a slightly more expensive welder is that wire feed control automatically varies according to power. Wire speed knob does not require fiddling when you change power settings. If you buy one of these you will never regret. In addition, if you buy a slightly expensive welder you can get a good sized feed motor and a quality wire feed mechanism. If you buy an expensive MIG welder which will cost somewhere around £200 to £500 you can avail more benefits in the long run. Generally expensive welders have two controls –one for power and the other for wire speed. Another control is spot timer.

How to weld aluminum in a safe way:

August 30th, 2010

Aluminum can be welded either with a wire feed welder or stick welding. To avoid injury, use these safety measures:

• Wear a protective welding hood while welding aluminum.

• It is important that you wear safety equipments like thick leather welding gloves, long jeans and boots and welding jacket to protect yourself against sparks and heat caused by welding.

• After welding work is over for the day, clean the work area as it can reduce the risk of fire caused by sparks.

• Always route the welding leads from welder to steel so that nobody can trip on them.

• Before a technician starts the aluminum welding process, ensure that all the cords and welding leads are free from defects.

• After welding work is over, turn off the welder.

• Clean up all the tools and materials used in this project so they don’t become a hazard.

An introduction to mig welding process

August 27th, 2010

Mig welding is also called as gas metal arc or wire feed welding and it comes under the category of consumable electrode methods. It is a semi automatic welding process that uses a direct current power source with constant voltage. It takes less time than other welding process and it is less expensive technique that uses shielding gases to create smoothly finished welds. A MIG welder can work with nearly all kinds of metals and Mild steels and aluminum are the popular metals used in this welding process. Its versatility speed and ease of adapting to robotic automation made mig welding as a most common industrial welding process. Mig welding technology has four metal transfer modes such as globular, short-circuiting, spray and pulsed-spray that differ from each other in their properties. Proper precautionary measures should be taken while doing the mig welding process because it deals with welding fumes and welding gears. A mig welder should wear welding safety gears such as welding helmet, welding gloves and welding goggles for the protection.

A brief insight into welding

August 26th, 2010

Welding is a sculptural process where it deals with raw items such as metal and pipes and it is a process where welders deal with welding fumes and heat. From the decade, welding has developed a lot and new welding technologies with advanced welding equipment and welding systems have been developed. When you consider the history, there were no welding schools at that time, but today you can see lots of welding schools and modern welding products with advanced welding tools have been introduced. Manufacturing process needs welding and it fails if the welding industry is not developed and equipped well with proper welding products. For the welding industry to run successfully the industrialist needs proper welding accessories with appropriate welding safety and welding gears. Plasma cutter has made the strong foundation in welding industry and plasma cutter machine is also used for the process of plasma gouging process. It is a process that is used to remove the welded materials and also it find cracks, porosities in welding materials.

Know about different types of welder

August 25th, 2010

A welder is a machine or equipment that the welder uses to make the weld and there are different types of welders that are used for different purposes. Each type of welding needs different welder products. Mig welding needs mig welders that do the appropriate mig welding services and when you buy the mig welder you can look for used mig welder, reconditioned welder and cheap mig welders and to understand better about these products it is best to have a look on mig welder reviews from internet.

When you weld aluminum or metal it is better to have a mig welding aluminum welder or metal welder or steel welder and use the portable arc welder that suits the type of metals. Plasma cutting process needs plasma welder and proper welder supply for the smooth functioning of its process. Similarly there are other types of welders such as ac welder, dc welder, high frequency welder, on board welder, spot welder, tig welder, resistance welder, wire feed welders and more. Welding projects need proper welding tools, welding products and welding equipment for its better operation.

Brief insight into hot air welder

August 24th, 2010

Hot air welder otherwise known as the hot gas welder is a kind of plastic welding technique which is almost similar to gas welding metals. However the specific technique is different in both the welding method. A hot air welder, which is a specially designed heat gun, produces a jet of hot air that softens both the parts to be joined and a plastic filler rod. It is important to note that all of the things to be welded must be of the same or a very similar plastic. However welding PVC to acrylic is an exception to this rule. For manufacturing smaller items like chemical tanks, water tanks, heat exchangers and plumbing fittings, the hot air welder is the most common fabrication technique being used.

If the welder is used to weld case of webs and films, a filler rod may not be used. Here two sheets of plastic would be heated using a hot gas or a heating element and then rolled together. This process is comparatively fast and can be accomplished continuously. There is another variation in the hot sir welding technique. It is called the freehand welding in which the jet of hot air from the welder is played on the weld area and the tip of the weld rod simultaneously. The rod is pushed into the joint and fuses to the parts as it softens. This process is slower compared to others. But the welding is versatile and can be used in almost any situation.

MIG WELDING – An overview:

August 20th, 2010

MIG welding was originally developed in 1940 for welding aluminum and other metals. Main advantage of this welding is metal can be welded much faster than traditional welding techniques. It can weld softer metals like aluminum. When MIG welding was first developed, cost of inert gas made the process too expensive for welding steel. In addition, it also produces long continuous welds much faster than traditional welding methods. MIG welding produces a clean weld with very little splatter. MIG welding can be used with a wide variety of metals and alloys. This type of welding is commonly used in the automobile industry because of its ability to produce clean welds and it can weld metals quickly. People favor MIG welding as it is much faster and saves time. The operating cost is lower and it can adjust to limited electrode length and this allows for longer welds with fewer interruptions.

Different types of welding:

August 19th, 2010

Welding is nothing but a process of joining two metals. Welding can be done through gas flame, electric arc or laser.

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is an automatic or semi automatic process where wire is connected to a source of direct current acts as an electrode joins two pieces of metal as it passes continuously through a welding gun. One major advantage is that metal can weld quickly than traditional welding. Other advantages are – since shielding gas protects the welding arc, MIG welding produces a clean weld with very little splatter. MIG welding can be used with a wide variety of metals and alloys.

Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the process of blending together reactive metals such as magnesium and aluminum. TIG welding is commonly used for both high quality and manual welding. There are different types of joint used with TIG welding like butt joint, lap joint, corner joint and t-joint.
