Post Spool / Roll Adaptor for Power IMIg250P, DYI

The wire spool holder in the IMIg250P is designed for a 30-44 l/b roll. Though the inside diameter of the 10-12 l/b roll is the same it will not fit properly due to the difference in width. I fashioned this adaptor out of some PVC pipe to fit behind the roll and fit over the tension pin and lock into the notch on the roll, holding the proper tension on the wire roll and alignment with the wire feeder. It’s pretty crude, but doesn’t show, I painted this one red so it shows up, and your partner (or you) won’t try to install the large roll and wonder why it won’t fit.
This was designed for the 250 but should work for the 205 and possibly other brands.
Here is a link to plans and photos so you can make your own.

You can also just use a bit of 2.5" rad hose and split it down the middle to use as a collar.
Personally i have just put the 10lb spool on and run it this way with no issues for both the 250p and 205 Welders , but i know it is nice to have it lined up just right.

Just using the 10 pound roll without any adaptor has worked for me as well, that is not to say things won't change when the roll is near empty. friction and weight seems to keep it from spinning into a birds nest at this time

The problem I’ve had is that especially on a full roll with no tension on it there will get some slack in the wire and it sometime will loop over the outside of the spool, then you got a mess. When laying out some tack welds is when it has bitten me in the past. The PVC is what I had layin around otherwise probably would have dun something different, like Duncan’s hose. Started out with a 2” pipe adaptor, but in a-boot 3 minutes it turned into this.
Hey what can I say, Just figured I’d share the idea. And I love to overbuild stuff.
