Thread: 256si no air in cut

  1. Default 256si no air in cut

I am sure this is probably something stupid, but I just picked up a 256si and everything works except the plasma cutter. It will strike an arc if I touch off the workpiece l, but doesn?t do anything if I just pull the trigger in mid air. The previous owner thought there was something wrong with the pilot pulse, but I don?t think you?d get a pilot arc without the air solenoid energizing. Everything works fine when using tig(including the solenoid), and everything works for stick welding. I plan to call support when I?m in front of the machine, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. All new consumables, trigger is working (tested with meter), air at ~70psi. I did also try the tig switch in cut just to see if the solenoid would fire, and it doesn?t.

So, R89 looks toasted and it?s right next to where the connector from the pilot arc comes in. I believe this is a 1 ohm resistor.

Check to see if your swirl ring is missing, or your pilot arc wire has continuity. DON'T SWITCH PROCESS IN PLASMA MODE OR YOU WILL BLOW UP YOUR UNIT! YOU ARE CREATING A DEAD SHORT THE UNIT IS NOT MEANT TO HAVE.
