Dead old '2 knob' 240 volt only 210EXT
Hi,
I haven't used my tig machine 210EXT in a couple of years. When I attempted to, I could not strike an arc. The high frequency works well, but it won't strike an arc. I checked gas, and purged everything, I have gas. But I cannot get the IGBT (or whatever 'does' the high amperage switching) to work.
When I turn the HF off, I can just BARELY strike an arc, and it's the smallest 'arc' I have ever worked with, probably at the far minimum of what the welder will 'do'.
I switched out my TIG set up to stick welding (moving ground cables, etc.) and I cannot strike an arc that way either. I'm using a 1/8" 7018 at about 140 amps and cannot even get a little glow or ANYTHING out of the machine.
I hope this is the right place to post this:
I know it's out of warranty, but I'd like to get it fixed if possible (and it's not TOO expensive) It really doesn't have many 'miles' on the rig, I got it just for my hobbies. I purchased it around between 2005 to 2010 and it's the 2 knob version that only accepts 220 volt.
It would REALLY be nice if I could be 'talked through' series of troubleshooting diagnostics to find out what/where it is broken, and I could purchase that part and repair it myself.

Call, Everlast,
Their phone tech service may not be contingent on the warrantee length.
I mean, Mark, from Everlast, monitors this forum and would probably be happy to do the routine steps by phone, I'm guessing.
Otherwise, I'd pop it open and look at the boards with a magnifying glass, as metal particles from grinders can cause trouble. So, even if you don't see anything smoked, I'd take a clean paint brush and some careful use of compressed air to clean inside, as it's about a dozen years old.
Of course, that vintage of 210EXT is different than my 210EXT, in that it used much more of the surface mount resistor style of boards.
Did you buy this new, way back then, or more recently buy it used?
Please let us all hear back how it goes.

It sounds as if it is in 4T. Move to 2T or pedal mode. Unfortunately that factory folded up as far as I know. We moved production to our other factory in 2012.
Now, if it has failed, I do have a personal 210 of that era with about 6 hours on it. No guarantees, but I would sell it if things can't be turned around on that one. It's dusty, but very little use. Has sat on the bottom of my cart for years.

Hi Mark,
I would be extremely happy to go 'through' my 210ext and hopefully 'narrow it down' to a few components. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, your used 210ext sounds like it's my best second choice. Thank you for your reply, and I will be happy to work with you to solve my problem.
(this is why I bought my machines from Everlast, to a great degree because of the FORUMS)
Let me know how I can facilitate this!
