Thread: Generator options??

  1. Default Generator options??

Ok,i know this has been braught up before.
But i dont remember seeing a 100% for sure awnser.

I have a mts-251,i am in the need of mobile power for it.

I know there is a listed THD requirement for the generator.
Is there any other soecs i should look for in a portable generator?

The one im looking at is 12,000/10,000 watts.
    THD of 5%.
Runs on either gas or propane.
Propane runs a lower wattage of 9,850/8,500 i believe.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Im looking for something in the price range of $1000-$1200.
The one im looking at is about $1100.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Northern Tool powerhorse line. They have a 13000w one about that price. Meets the requirements. A lot of the cheaper products say they are but aren't. If it's duromax or champion, be very careful...

    Thanks.
The one im looking at is actualy a pulsar brand.
I assume a rep from there gets on the home depo site.
Since there is quite a few responces saying the thd is 5%.
I just NEED to make sure there are no other requirements i need to look for to power my welder.
Im not trying to damage my welder by giving it bad power.

If those are the only requirements,i suppose ill order the pulsar generator.

    Thanks again sir.

Call the manufacturer. Don't rely on "others" to inform you. We've seen misinformation before on this stuff.

Ok.im back. I was able to get a couple of emails back from pulsar.
This is what the guy told me.
I tried calling a few times,at different times to try to get ahold of tech.
    But nobody picked up.

? THD will change depending on the load. It can range from 5% up to
25%+. If 5% or less is needed, you may want to look at inverter type units.

THD will increase as load increases unless you have an inverter type generator or some sort of line conditioner. The unit is equipped with a voltage regulator that usually will suffice for welder needs. Low THD levels are preferred for sensitive electronics such as TV's and computers. If you would like technical assistance on the matter, please contact support at ‪1-866-591-8921‬ and they can better assist here. ?

Thats what i was thinking when i read the emails.
So,ill be saving for a northern tool powerhorse.
Most likely the 11,000 watt version.
