250 EX Foot pedal

I purchased a Everlast TIG welder POWERTIG 250EX about two years ago. I have been very happy with it so far except for the foot petal. It is far to sensitive. The unit came with a FT-22-CL. I measured the resistance across pins 3 and 5 of the connector and read approximately 20 kohms. Would it be possible to take the foot petal apart and replace the potentiometer with 50 kohm linear potentiometer of the same type. Would there be any other advantages to order a new EV-PowerPedal-50DL.

The pot is wired as a voltage divider, so changing the value will not have that much effect. However, changing the taper from linear to log or vise versa will. You can also get reverse log, if you want that. The quality of the pot also has a big impact on smoothness of current transition. So be sure to get a good one. To get the most resolution set the panel at the expected max current or just above, that way you have the most response from the pedal, as well.

I'm not sure what the black rocker switch is or where it is so maybe I don't have one.

On the front of the control panel, You have a row of rocker switches to select modes, or you have a row of green touch buttons that do the same thing.
