It was a slight disappointment when I first opened the Nova pedal as it had that Chinesium smell to it, much worse than anything inside the welder box or packing...but it must be that rubber on the cord, where the machines have a harder plastic on the power cord.

My $0.02 FWIW, go to your local welding shop as they will most likely carry some CK tungsten, I have no idea where it is made, but it is what most people use. That midwest stuff was hanging on the wall of my LWS as well, so I'm sure it's fine. I don't know about HF tungsten, I avoid going in the place unless I need to.

I know what your saying Alan it does have its own smell its probably the smell of lead they have an over abundance of lead over there that they have been trying over the years to get rid of or so it would seem .And its also kind of creepy walking around in there with all that foreign stuff and you never know when someone might sneak up in back of you and throw a black bag over your head and the next thing you know you wake up in a foreign country sold as a sex slave.

I always refer to that smell as the products being covered in 2 week old Chinese food. They put cosmoline on everything. But I believe it is the rubber products, and it is probably lead or some type of radioactive material to be certain...

This is after all the same evolution we watched Japan go through during the 70s and 80s and by the 90s Japan became one of the best at manufacturing. It still hurts me that we're off shoring our manufacturing to them, we only help China grow faster than the U.S. in that regard and catch up with us. A lot of technology is coming out of Japan, and even China these days...one day they may be better than the U.S., and that's a scary thought.

That said, the reason I recommended your LWS is that you may need their help in the future, if nothing else but to buy gas. Tungsten is available in packs for 3 to get you started for the price of a happy meal.

Well we helped Japan get to the top after WW2 when we rebuilt their whole country and as far as our money lender country goes a lot of their tech is stolen tech I do believe much of it being from the U.S.
