Thread: Stick welder repair status

    Default Stick welder repair status

My PA300 quit working and I sent it to Tennessee under warranty (purchased 5/3/14). It arrived on 8/18/17 with UPS shipping pre-paid both ways through Everlast (Katya). The RA is EV20170811-101 given by Brett K.

I haven't heard a thing and it is 11/13/17 today. That is 60 work days while the repair "estimate" was 40 work days. I think that is enough patience. It may be time to send me a new replacement machine.

What is the status and when can I get back to work???

BTW, I really like the PA300 and its features. Just need it in my possession to be able to use the features. Winter is when I do maintenance on my farm equipment.

I think they want a repair center near the right and left coast to cut shipping cost.

I thought so, too. However, they had him ship to TN from CA, so...

No mention of anywhere but Tennessee for repairs when I spoke to Everlast. I live near their San Francisco office so offered to drive the welder to there. Nope, send it to TN.

About $100 for shipping both ways. Not sure Idaho would have been that much cheaper - 55 pounds is expensive to ship by UPS.

Bottom line: I just want my welder back in working condition.

You can call ext 207 and they have access to the system. No one here has access to figure it out for you.

    Update:

I called the number + extension that performance provided. It was Brett again and he said he'd look into it. The next day I got an email from UPS that Everlast is sending me a package from TN.

Kudos for Brettt but, still, this kind of thing shouldn't happen. 60 work days / 3 months is excessive. Given the string of events, the welder must have been sitting there waiting to be shipped for some time even though the shipping was prepaid.

We will see what is up when the welder gets here on 11/21/17.

    Yeah,

It seems just as possible that the unit may have called for a board that was not on hand somehow and needed to be shipped from Asia first, which could explain the necesssity of the added time.

Otherwise, the $100 cost for a round-trip in shipping and about 60+ days seems quite reasonable to me under those circumstances, I think. Of course, there was probably 10+ days used for travel on the unit itself alone.

The unit will undoubtedly arrive and function like new. So, please let us also all hear about how happy you are at that time.

But this Everlast forum is just another benefit for us here, as it does allow for some added attention in facilitating a warrantee issue.

    Rock On, Everlast!

    Yeah,

It was just a coincidence that it shipped the day after I called to inquire. Quite a coincidence to be sure.

An explanation, or a communication of any kind for that matter, would have been an expected courtesy. Everlast still has not contacted me, only UPS saying that a delivery is scheduled. My nightmare is that UPS does one of their damage jobs on the package.

Of course, you were not the one without the welder for three months.

    Yeah,

I've often kept a second welder, just for that kind of stuff, even though I didn't really need the two units, as I could well tolerate a unit repair of up to 90 days, if needed.

Now I have just the one Everlast unit, with no problems over about three years of pretty light use.

If I relied on one particular Everlast unit for Stick welding with any significant amount of customers or deadlines, as soon I sent the one in for repair, that's when I'd probably buy a second, back-up unit at the same class level or greater. (I do notice you seem to have the PA200 too, which looks like a tidy and potent little unit as well.)

Basic Stick welders are priced so well today, and inverter ones can be so light and small now, too.

It's such a fun and affordable time for welding.

On the other hand, as for TIG welding, I was at Airgas today, swapping-out one of my 125 CF bottles (the other is 150CF, which Airgas apprently now considers as a 125CF somehow). But they were all out, and the latest price had increased to $72, after several other charges and taxes, I think it was. It was $39, before added charges, about 7 years ago there. Then it was $55, last I recall. Now it's apparently $72, out-the-door, for 125CF. But, since they were out of the 125s, I got a 200CF for the 125CF price. But the 200CF price is virtually the same price as the 125CF, at about $81, I think the guy said, and we both agreed that is would be stupid, going forward, to use any size under 200CF, even though those tanks are pretty weighty. More is better when it come to gas, and the price-per is better too.

So, I've had an incidental welding gripe myself lately. Ha, ha, ha...

You would expect any company to keep you informed of any and all delays.

    Yeah,

I suppose on a car repair I might expect as much.

But maybe I am a little over-apologetic on behalf of Everlast, since I've had good interaction with it/them and becuase they used to get such unwarrarented and harsh criticism from non-users, ironically due to the superior value they have to offer, I think.

It occurs to me also, that those repair centers are not staffed by Everlast employees, I believe, which doesn't make for a good excuse, though.

But it does make communication errors more understandable.

So, to me, there is some follow-up responsiblility on a customer as well as the seller, I think, if timeliness becomes an issue.

And, again, this Everlast-provided forum is an added benefit that can also help backstop with communication errors on repair timeliness.

Wheeeee, it's a great time for welding!!!!!!!!!

Interesting observation, however not one that I share.

I called Everlast and UPs shipping responded rather than Everlast. That takes out the argument of a third party involvement / responsibility. I am expecting you to say that notification by UPS equates to notification by Everlast. Your excuses are quite creative if somewhat sycophantic.

    Hey,

Thanks for compliment portion, preceding the ad hominem, that is. What's a sycophant? I've never used that word in a sentence, till now.

But, no, quite the opposite, like the repair center employees, Everlast isn't the direct supervisor of UPS employees either.

Fret not, your needless anxiety will be over soon.
