    Default 325EXT Triangular Wave???

    I was welding with my 325EXT in triangular wave and the most I could get it to weld was 176 Amps I tried single phase the same as three phase 176 Amps. So I tried all the rest and the same see list below this what the reading was on the machine. So single phase 240V or 3 phase 240V makes no difference plus or minus 1 or 2 amps is nothing, I thought in 3 phase it would be the higher. Still waiting from Everlast Canada. Now I am using the new E3 tungsten and it works very well and triangular wave work very well upside down on aluminum.

    3 Phase
    Advance square and it got to 320 Amps
    Sine wave it got to 220 Amps
    Soft square it got to 209 Amps
    Triangular wave it got to 176 Amps
    DC it got to 321 Amps

    Single Phase
    Advance square and it got to 320 Amps
    Sine wave it got to 221 Amps
    Soft square it got to 208 Amps
    Triangular wave it got to 175 Amps
    DC it got to 321 Amps

    You have to realize that readouts on digital meters are "tuned" or derived based on a certain type of wave form. Different wave forms read differently on a meter. Reading on a digital meter, including the one on the unit will offer innacurate or "averaged" view of the amps, not the peaks of the wave.

    I can only weld 3/16 aluminum plate just with the pedal all the way to the floor. 1/4 inch plate I can not weld with the 325 EXT in Triangular wave. on Advance square at 320 Amps I can weld 1/2 inch aluminum easily.

    That is because it is only at the peak for a tiny, tiny amount of time. Triangular is for thin metals because of this. Turn down the Hertz to 50 or so if you want to see more heat.

    Also go to 20% or less on balance.

    Send me an email on your exact amps you get at max and your experience and I'll discuss it further with the factory. But I think the main issue is that is the nature of the Triangular wave. It cools rapidly.

    Well I set the AC Balance to 20 and the AC Hz to 40 and i just was able to weld 1/4 aluminum plate. The reason I want to use the Triangular wave is to weld parts onto a boat upside down and it works well on the thinner parts so far. Using the E3 tungsten helps also better then 2% lanthanated it keeps a stable arc and not ball up as much on the end and has a nice clean round ball on the end of the point.

    also if ya need triangle, but more juice. then add helium

    It was easier to use a friend Miller Dynasty 350 to do the job I like my 325EXT I will just wait and see what the Everlast factory has to say. The advance pule does not give a nice weld, all is done using the Dynasty very nice machine but $12,000 is a lot of money for a welder.

    I can't send or receive any emails right now. I've had an on/off issue about two weeks. I've told Oleg about it, but he hasn't done anything about it as far as I can tell. Frustrating for me.

    Like I said I will just have to wait till you hear something from the Everlast factory frustrated is a good word for waiting for replies that take a long time.

    Yeah,

    I like the Triangle wave on my unit for its narrow and penetrating beads for lighter stuff. But, it doesn't "bring the heat" like the Squarewave.

    It's interesting though, Kempy, how you're apparently finding use for it in some interesting position welding.

    That with 1/8 or 3/32 electrode? At 3/16 yeah both will work plenty fine, just for me I've noticed on triangle 3/32 goes deeper, 1/8 tries to spread heat out wide. Once I was lazy on thin stuff and left 1/8 in torch and turned sheet into solder before I could get a puddle! Haha pulse and tri it went blap blap! nothing so I held tad longer, then blap blap! And I was left with no corner on sheet and a puddle'o'aluminum!

    Well it has been over 2 months since I posted the problem on 01/08/2017 about the triangular wave and now it is 03/13/2017 and still have not heard anything from Everlast U.S.A. or Everlast Canada on what to do.

    It would be nice if another 325EXT user could replicate this to see if it's an issue with your machine or something in the design.

    Well I am going to Lincoln next week to see their Aspect 375 Welder the Miller is out to lunch with theirs at almost $16,000.00 with taxes if I have too I will have the 325EXT as a backup, the Lincoln has a 5 year warranty and that will last the duration of the job I have now to do for Ford making 2017 GT oil tanks.

    used a 375 aspect this winter at a trade show....liked it alot ..could have bought it for 5600.00......friend of mine made the fuel cell for a gt-40 was really sharp....i make reservoir tanks for intercoolers.

    I'm not sure if anyone ever gave you an answer on your question/issue but I might be able to shed some light what I THINK is going on as I'm a recovering electronics engineer albeit a bit rusty. This is just a hunch.....

    There are many ways to characterize and quantify AC waveforms (peak to peak, max amplitude, RMS root mean square, etc.). Generally speaking, RMS takes wave shape into account and gives an indication of the amount of "power" in a waveform. Something you are already familiar with are your AC power mains, 110 or 120 volts in the US (or 220V). That figure is 120/220 volts AC (alternating current) RMS. If you would look at the waveform on an oscilloscope you would see it is actually a peak to peak sine wave approximately +/-170 volts. The conversion from pk-to-pk to RMS is multiply by 0.707

    Looking at the welder, the 325 amp capability is probably describing the peak to peak voltage. If that's the case, a 325A sine wave has an RMS of 325 times 0.707 or 230 which is pretty darn close to your observed 220.

    Similarly the conversion of a square wave from pk-to-pk to RMS is one. That is, the numbers are the same which is again close to what you have.
    I'm guessing that a triangle waveform's conversion is 1/2 or in this case approximately 162A
    Soft-square is not a mathematically meaningful waveform so God only knows what the conversion would be.

    My guess is that the welder's electronics is measuring RMS.
