You have to realize that readouts on digital meters are "tuned" or derived based on a certain type of wave form. Different wave forms read differently on a meter. Reading on a digital meter, including the one on the unit will offer innacurate or "averaged" view of the amps, not the peaks of the wave.

I can only weld 3/16 aluminum plate just with the pedal all the way to the floor. 1/4 inch plate I can not weld with the 325 EXT in Triangular wave. on Advance square at 320 Amps I can weld 1/2 inch aluminum easily.
