Thread: 250p Spray Arc

    Default 250p Spray Arc

Just wanted to show how well spray arc works with regular old 75/25 argon/CO2 mix, 10 lpm, 1/2" nozzle, ESAB 12.50 OK Aristorod .035 solid wire, welding 1/4" to 1/2" steel. The arc is as stable as any and pretty close to silent. Any bb spatter was from tacking. All welds were made horizontal because the puddle would run like water otherwise. These may not impress the pros but I'm proud of them, having no formal training.

Hi zoama, looking good! No need to efface here, they look fully 'PRO' to me.

I haven't looked at the forum for a long time and glad that I did because of my interest in this machine for to hook up to a Miller feeder with a 30A gun. As you know I've successfully done that (gun only) with the I-mig 200. As you also know I've sung the little guy's praises many times. I'm itching to do this and have questions for you. I think you have a spool gun? Have you tried it on AL with the gun? You are pretty hot there at 28V and have you crowded it to push the duty cycle? The machine is listed as stick capable but I only see the ground tap and not a + tap, so is that connection through the Euro? What I want to do 'should' be relatively simple as the Miller feeder supplies all the mojo to make the gun work so all that's needed is to make the power source turn on and off. I know lugweld sez there is no contactor as such but something energizes the machine and that is via the spoolgun connection or Euro- a simple wire trace. In this case, I want to maintain the ability to use the on-board wire feed so it would be different than what I did with the I-mig. I've tried on this forum and others to get some feedback about this machine but it has drawn blanks. Longevity makes a similar machine (even looks identical) and I've had actual feedback but their machine is synergistic and I'm not interested in that capability. Also, there is something about their persona that turns me off a bit. After all, I have two green machines that have made other sales for Everlast and those owners are equally happy; stick to what you know, yes?

Soooo, if you have anything that could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
I have a spool gun but never achieved usable results with 5356 wire. I believe the 200n spool gun is sucking air and ruining the weld at any setting. I tig welded the new stringers in my boat and haven't tried the spool gun since, but I'll get back to it soon.
I've never hit any limit for duty cycle. The machine works very well and seems to have more capability that it's rated for. There are + and - dinse connectors at the bottom of the front panel.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. Why not try a roll of steel wire in your gun? That might tell you something.Try it with argon straight. Boy howdy that it has two taps because for all the world the picture online doesn't show two.

I found a pic of the front. I added the cable hanger after I switched to a 20' profax gun.

What did the profax set you back and where did you pick it up (if you don't mind sharing). We use spool guns for the longer cable, might be worth a look for us. Came with the euro connecter too (plug and play)?

Plug and play but I later switched the front end parts to screw on 23 style. Looks like weldfabulous.com has a good deal on them. The HD version may come with the 23 style nozzle. I bought mine in 2011 so the price may be higher now.

The welds look great. I have a couple spray arc questions,
1st question - if the C25 worked with the 250P it should work fine with my 275P, am I correct in assuming this?
    .
2nd question - is it possible to get the same kind of MIG Spray Arc Welds with Flux Core Arc Welding, if so do you run the same amps and imp? I'll be using .035 wire with C25 gas and N211 .035 Flux Core Wire. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your machine should do the same but I don't know about the flux core. I'm using Esab OK Aristorod 12.50 (ER70S-6) .035" Mark (Performance) says it works best for spray arc.
Spray only works for horizontal or slight tilt since it's so hot.

You can spray if you put enough into it with almost any gas, but controlability and heat are concerns. It is far simpler, and you will get better results at lower amps/volts spraying if you use a gas that is less than 20% CO2. I use a proprietary blend from Airgas of 82/18 (C18) designed for use with spray. When you do it, you will see the difference, as I have done both...Most use 90/10, or a similar mix which lowers the volt/amp requirement even further.

I still blend the C25 on my MIG machine with pure argon from my TIG cart through a tee fitting with regular 1/4" air hose quick couplings when I need more than a 75% argon mix. I don't want to buy a third tank for what little I would use it.

I went well overboard to short arc and spray with a Miller gas mixer and associated regulators. It seems to work really well but I should have just got the C18 gas and been done with it.
