Nice looking project. The best the forum has been in months, but not having a next button to go through the photos is a pain. I like the drop down as a way to clean up, I can see that working even with a heavier saw with the addition of a gas cylinder to counterbalance it a little. I need to make a new saw stand, and am torn about chip control. Your way makes cleaning up the saw easy, but I still have to sweep up. I don't know if it's doable, but I am to the point where I would like to not make the mess in the first place. I saw a shop using a Fast cap saw hood on an aluminum cutting chop saw. I don't think it would work for steel as it's some kind of canvas and meant for woodworking, but it directed all the chips into a bin under the saw. I was thinking of reproducing it in sheet aluminum to handle the hot steel chips. Maybe not worth the trouble? Not sure. My saw doesn't have the sliding rails so if it swung down, I could probably have a flat surface to use for something else when the saw is lowered. I'll have to think about this some more. And yes bigger picture would be nice.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
