Thread: Northern Tool Welding Cart/Cabinet: Review & Modification

  1. Default Northern Tool Welding Cart/Cabinet: Review & Modification

Here's a new one I've uploaded to my YouTube Channel.

It also features my Everlast 210EXT a bit.

"Christian Livingstone gives a review of a Northern Tool welding cart/cabinet, which includes his rationale for its purchase. He also demonstrates how that the cabinet and drawer pull-side is designed to be easily reversible, even though that isn’t a published feature.

"Christian also shows how the cart/cabinet can be modified to accept two Argon bottles, rather than just one, and also how to include an elegant solution for TIG filler rod tube stowage on the cart.

"As an added bonus, within the video there is even a trace reference or two to Christian Anarchy, Realized Eschatology, and Anti-Statism, which are favorite topics for Christian."

I think I reviewed that one on our youtube channel. I picked one up with a slight dent for 25.00. Good cart. No complaints.

You have the perfect setup for silent water cooling. Add another valve at your washer to feed the torch and discharge into the washer drain.
Did you make the table that's in front of your couch? Nice work on the cart. I agree that sometimes it's better to buy off the shelf. I had the materials on hand to build my own cart and did so mainly for hobby and experience but I also needed casters at all four corners so I could shove the whole thing sideways when needed. I believe I've got about $80 in it. Link in my sig. You're a tough man if you handle those bottles alone come time to fill them. My lws just leaves the full cylinder in the middle of their loading dock with no offer of help loading it. I have to carry it down stairs or try to lower it into my pickup without knocking a dent.

    Yeah,

I suppose with the water and drain right there that would be clever and easy. I'll keep that in mind, thanks! But I'm also now using that new CK SteadyGrip on a 17 torch, which keeps a potentially scorching hot torch out of my hand.

I didn't make that table originally, but did lower its height and installed the expanded metal as a top for it.

Yeah, I think I saw your cart build thread, and did enjoy it, along with others like it. Maybe I'm getting lazier as I get older.

150 CF bottles are manageable for me, as I can back up my small pick-up to a loading area and slide the bottles onto the raised dock only a foot or two away, then the new ones are left for me in the same spot. Easy peasy! And with the new cart containing both bottles, I suppose I'll just roll the cart itself out to the pick-up, as the truck is only parked about 40 feet away, and there's no steps out to it either.
