So I just picked up a new dual-voltage model of the Powertig 185, and the high-frequency start function seems to not be working. The machine stick welds and lift-starts like a champ, but it won't strike an arc without the tungsten contacting the workpiece. I read the trouble shooting page in the manual and it mentions this might be related to the HF point gap being set incorrectly. I did a little research, and came across diagrams on some of the larger machines, but I could not find any threads, diagrams, etc. specific to this machine. It would be great if someone could supply me with a little more knowledge before I pop the top on my new welder, I don't want to mess anything up... Thanks!
