For many of these units, the rear power switch is actually the input circuit breaker. So the easiest thing is just to do as you have been and interrupt the input and leave the switch on. If you want to use a small switch, just use a contactor to do the heavy switching.

Thanks Much, I will continue to do what I have been doing. I was only worried about the possibility of hurting the machine. After having welded piping that most times got X-Ray ed for 30 years in the field it sure is nice to have a foot pedal. They even had me Tig welding 316 S.S. in a nuke with no foot pedal or HF start in the late 70s.

You can turn it on at the panel with not problem. Why did you need the schematics?

I figured with the schematics I would see what type of switch it was and get a switch and build a suitable box before I got help to lift it down. Besides being old I'm also combat disabled so the least amount of moves is always good. But with the consensus that using my panels breaker is OK I'm good for now. Thank you both.
As far as having a set of schematics, I'm on a very fixed income at this point and the thought of ever having to ship the 250 out for repair does make me nervous with the costs involved.

We normally, like all the others, do not provide them. I have in the past shared a section of them for EE types on the other end of the phone.
