OK I'll admit it ... I go to HF sometimes but am always very careful about what I buy ... I'm really not impressed with their consumables ... however I have used their flux core ... eh ... not terribly disappointed with it.

Yea, I have bought HF wire and Home Depot Lincoln wire and never had a problem. HF is what it is, you try things, some good and some you swear off. No drill bits or sand paper for sure. I figure a lot of times it's a one time tool. I have had a orange grinder for almost 10 years. But the price and the 25% off that. Who can resist.

Chicago electric, Central pneumatic, Pittsburgh Tools are fair ... I've been using them for sometime ... anything from Drill Master is garbage.

I've been pretty busy just trying to keep things afloat since I'm "retired" now and don't have a steady income but I'll tell ya I'm a whole lot happier now not having to please the unpleasable and do things the way incompetent "superiors" want me to do things. Been making lots of things in the shop and vending at races and runs ... here's the last thing I made ... if you can't tell ... it's a raven that I made to sell but my wife liked it so for now it's hung on our wall ... till she gets tired of it.

Looks nice. I see why she wanted to keep it. Looks like a lot of work. You braze or MIG it?

It took several days and a lot of material ... since it was done with a lot of small pieces I held with one hand while attaching I used my MIG that allowed me t keep the weight done however I have been using a lot of silica bronze and my TIG on things lately ... I love the way I can use low heat and the filler flows nicely on thin metal.

Looks like a ton of work. What's the brand and number on the silica bronze, will pick a roll up for fun stuff.

It's strictly TIG rod as far as I know ... I'll have to look the # up when I get out to the shop ... I picked it up at Air-Gas ... I find 26 amps DCEN for 22ga mild steel is perfect and 58 amps for 16ga ... is great on a 1/16" rod any thing thicker and I would use 3/32" rod. Silica Bronze is a fun to work with.

You can get copper-silicon and silicon bronze MIG wire for MIG brazing. Never tried it, but I see it is now used in autobody, to work with the newer high strength heat treated steels. So they don't lose heat treat doing additions or repairs. I saw where Jaguar is also using it in manufacturing.

With TIG it is real nice to work with for sure, beats the hell out of oxy-fuel for delicate work.

Thanks for the amps and details on TIG Winky. I miss read and thought you were talking MIG fill. But will get it for TIG for sure.

Ram, thanks for the MIG info. That is what I was after, you must have read my mind, MIG and for autobody work. We have to be real careful with the MIG and ER70, and then the grinding and filler.

Something to try when Winky mentioned the material and how it flowed so well. And easier on grinding.

Most commonly recommended electrode wire for sheet steel, they say is Copper-sillcon "CuSi3". Will see what the price on a small spool is, otherwise, TIG is will be.

Also, no spatter, no warping if setup is correct. Good article.

silicon bronze also works good to modify springs if you need to put a washer on an end or attach it to something. Just do not quench it when you are done. It will also weld copper and bronze together but you need to watch for cold cracking because the heat is sucked out so fast.

I think I remember welding tip and tricks also was using silicon bronze to weld some 4140 crome molly in one of his videos. I don't remember the details though.

This sounds like the filler I use on copper pipe with the MC O/A. I have two types, but the MIG part I know I want to try. Will lookup the Radnor number.
