Thread: What's better? Electrically hot or cold tip

  1. Default What's better? Electrically hot or cold tip

I see some mig machines advertised as having electrically hot or cold tips.
I understand this to mean : contact tip not energized till trigger is pulled= cold
Contact tip energized whenever the welder is turned on, trigger not pulled = hot.
Which is considered better? Hot seems to be less safe, but then again no different than a stick welder.
Is one or the other associated with higher quality welders?

Hot is not good. It's a cheap way to make a welder. No advantage at all.
