I've just been wearing long sleeve cotton shirts, myself. Frayed cotton is a fire hazard, and synthetic fibers will melt onto your skin. I bought some sleeves some time back, and never use them.

Are you working outside? A breeze can interfere with your shielding gas and cause weld problems, so if you can set yourself up in a wind-protected spot you'll be doing yourself a favor. Some time back I started hearing tungsten making a crackling sound when a faint breeze picked up, so I moved a touch further inside the garage.
