What plasma cutter should I be looking at getting for some home hobbyist type work?
Looking at power ratings & cutting capacities (1/2" max for the most part), it looks like a 50@ unit should do the job. Everything I've read indicates IGBTs are notably more durable than MOSFET units.
That pretty much leaves me looking at a PowerPlasma 50.
My major confusion at this point is the start types. Is there any large advantages to blowback vs. High Frequency? I'd love to build a CNC setup some day, but it's not likely to happen, so the interference aspect of HF isn't a major downside.
To get the HF start I'd either have to drop down to a MOSFET SuperCut or upgrade a bit above my budget to a PowerPlasma 60C.
Any suggestions?
I've also looked at the PowerPro 205 a bit. I've currently got a Miller Maxstar 200, but am interested in upgrading to AC as well as getting plasma. I'd probably have to sell off the Maxstar, but I tinker & putter, so don't use it too often. Are there any major drawbacks to having an all in one unit over dedicated systems, other than having to swap attachments to go between processes?
