I would think either the switch on the torch is bad, so the machine thinks you want to keep welding after its release OR there's a problem in the machine where it's not following the release of that switch.
I would first use a meter on the switch leads, at the plug where it connects to the welder, to determine if the switch is working properly...
Sounds like the switch on the torch (or foot pedal as the case may be). Call up Everlast in AU. That's what they are there for. Should be something simple. In the US the torches are under a separate 6 month warranty. I think it's the same in AU, but not sure.
