Thread: intermit pilot arc with CT520

  1. Default intermit pilot arc with CT520

Set up machine and turned it on. Connected plasma cutter. The first five minutes were good untill it started to sputter. I replaced the consumables, and the same thing happened. Pilot arc is intermittent when switch is depressed. When arc is on, bringing the torch to the material to cut, causes arc to actually blow out. Pilot arc is very intermittent and blows out when close to material. Plasma cutter overall, cannot be used. Please Help. thanks

The CT 520 is a Canadian version only, just so people aren't confused. First make sure your polarity is correct. DC- for the torch.

The points in the pilot arc may need adjustment. Please call tech support to get the proper adjustment procedures for your machine.

I am at the factory this Week but i will be back on monday. What pressure is the compressor set at and what psi are you running through the regulator. to high a settings can cause problems with the pilot arc being blown out
    cheers

I have not heard back from Cardoc . It may be the pressure was to high and when the torch was brought close to the material the air pressure would flow back and extinquish the arc.
We have had a couple of situations like this .

Sorry, for not replying guys. Its been crazy at my shop. The torch works a little better between 20 - 30 PSI. The issue still remains though. If i move the torch across a 1/8" plate, really fast, it stays lit but does not cut all the way through. If I go slower it cuts through but sputters across and just punches a bunch of holes. I find it sputters the same at all pressures from very low pressure, 10 psi and at very high, 60 psi. I also have not yet adjusted or calibrated anything internally yet. thanks

Can you give me a call preferably when you are at the unit so we can go through the steps and try to figure out what the cause might be.
    Thanks

Hey there, so my plasma torch really has not worked well ,at all, since i have bought it. I have to pull the trigger about 30 times before the pilot starts, then as soon as i get close to cutting the material, the arc stops and its just compressed air. Sometimes it starts if i hold the tip very close to the material, but that is rare when that happens. 99.9% of the time, the cutter will not arc with the first pull of the trigger. Is there a number that i can phone that is toll free? Getting really frustrated with the machine, thanks.

    Cardoc,
A few questions that I have that have not been asked and aslo I am not familiar with the 520 unit either. The air lines that you are using per your screen name is that you have a shop, so are you sure you are using dry air for 1 and also a lot of shops will use a in line oiler for a big system so is there an oiler in the system? I would assume not but just checking .
Next thing is are you grounding or using the " work clamp" on your material? try not connecting the work clamp to see if that makes a difference. I had a 256 that I had the same type problems with a HF board and if I did not connect the work clamp it would cut great so give that a shot be careful to make sure with wearing gloves and do no have any bear skin leaning on the cutting metal or table when not using the work clamp on the materials.. I changed out the HF board and had no problems BUt like I had said earlier I do not know the 520 machine..
