Now for the big question: do you have to wait for December 25 to open the box and tried it out?

Well, I still need to run some service to the area that I plan on using to plug the machine in and still have to pick up a cylinder of argon. It will be a couple weeks before I am ready. If some time frees up I may ask to open before the 25th but that does seem to fit my time line of when I will actually ready for it.

What model did you go with? Also, look on craigslist for combos being sold (welder and tank). Sometime you get lucky. Swap the tank (if with a MIG) and sell off the welder. If not rent a large tank, it will save you money in the long run.

I got the little 140st. I have an area set up to fiddle with it over the winter in my basement. A booth with a "squire cage" blower unit from a furnace for exhaust with sheet metal sides and such. My main work area is unheated and looking at the temp right now it is 15 degrees out. I have a couple mig machines, arc and gas outfits waiting for warmer weather in my pole barn. Hoping to have a floor poured and some heat by next fall in a corner it to use in the future.

I have no real need for a tig but wanted to play with one. I have an argon set up that is borrowed to use with a spool gun on my mig set up but I have to get that back to the guy I borrowed it from. When I get my own I can then swap it back and forth between my mig spool set up and the tig machine. It will also be sweet to be able to have the little Everlast to use here and there with it's dual voltage option.

Congrats on your new welder, Bill. At least someone on here got a new welder for Xmas. I was hoping to upgrade to an AC/DC dual voltage tig by the end of this year, but things didn't work out for me. Plus I figure the second I spend money on one, Oleg will announce that I actually placed in the top 3 for the contest, and I'll have already spent the money I could have otherwise saved (just my luck!). Next on the list after that is a Mig with a spool gun, and I plan on doing a set up like you have, where I use one cylinder for multiple purposes. I have aluminum projects from 8 years ago that I want to weld...can't wait til I get the chance to finish them!

Anyways, enjoy your present once you get to open the box and use it. And try to act surprised when you open it on Xmas morning...Santa doesn't want you to think he isn't real!

It is a small little thing so portable is the word and you can run on a smaller generator. We we the IMIG200 all the time on a 5500watt. We also throw a spool gun and argon in the back for mobile MIG aluminum welding (on clam days). I had the 160, the HF start was nice, but the 140 price point, is hard to beat.

I pole barn at 15 degrees could be a bit rough, welding jacket or not

Thanks Mike! Never thought of giving it a try on a generator. I have a Honda 3500 watt that I fire up once a month (Man, really crappy gas these days!). Next time I do that I will plug in the little Everlast and give it a go. If that won't do it my brother in law was hinting he wanted to sell me his 5500 watt gen as he moved to town and didn't feel he would have need of it. Be kind of cool to toss my welding goodies in my little 6 x 10 covered trailer to do some mobile welding.
