Thread: Is there a warm up time

  1. Default Is there a warm up time

I used a guys 2012 205 welder to try it on Aluminum
No HF, preflow off, AC on, 2T pedal
So I checked the points they were at .060 closed them to .035 still no HF
Points did flash on machine turn on so I held the pedal for about a minute a green led came on & about 15 secs later another green led & the points are now showing a nice blue arc
Didn't get to weld though as the Argon bottle ran out after spending most of the day looking for loose wires researching the net for info.
Is there a warm up time after turning on the machine ? It seems like its waiting for a capacitor to charge before a relay kicks in then again for the next relay that starts the HF.

Try swapping to torch switch to confirm the pedal isn't the problem. My 225LX will HF light as soon as the fault light/diagnostics complete.

under a half a second. Something weird is going on with your machine. The torch switch check will rule out a bad switch in the pedal.
My welder flashes it's points at starup as well. I understand that's pretty normal.

It does the same with the torch on 4t, It didn't want to start at all I had to switch to Plasma to Hf a few times fairly quickly then the relay kicked in,

Does the gas flow start immediately or is it delayed, too? If it starts right away you might want to play with the preflow setting as the pot may have a dirty spot in it and can often be fixed my moving the control a few times.

Got a new bottle of argon Hf does start after quite a long delay about a minute +
Foot pedal strikes a ark but there is no amperage control at all I have to set the amperage on the main dial .
Machine is on 2T, preflow at min ,Post at 5 secs ,Ac on, Hf on, freq 125, balance 30
    All other knobs at zero
Tested pedal ohms out fine between 4-5 4-3, switch works,

Sounds like you will have to send it in for repair, unless you want to try to diagnose it further.
