    Default 14 gauge sheetmetal tig ballpark ??

    well its been a long time since i have really done any daily tig work 7yrs or so and that was on a 300 dynasty any how can someone get me in the pall park for settings on my 205?? i am trying to weld 14g sheetmetal i have it set at 70amps with foot pedal 2t on but want to try the pulse mode i think i have blue 2% 3/32 tungsten what i got with my 205. i have not got a chance to really use this thing since i got it other than the plasma and i like that a lot so far

    thanx

    You are in the ballpark, maybe go up a little to 80 or 90 amps, so you have a little extra in the pedal. 1/16" tungsten will start a little cleaner and be more focused, but 3/32" will do the job, too. Blue or red tungsten is fine (lanthanated or thoriated). Pulse settings depend on what you are trying to do with pulse. If you are using it to set your pace, you will run a slow pulse of around 1 pulse per second, with roughly 50% on time, and 50% current. You can also do the same manually with the pedal in areas where you may not be able to maintain an even travel speed. If you are using a fast pulse to control heat input, then go up to around 30 pulses per second or faster with 30-50% on time and 30-50% current.

    Hello Braveops!

    You are pretty close, here's how I would start for STEEL:

    DC, 2T, No pulse
    Argon @ 15cfh/7LPM or slightly lower with #5/6 gas lens setup.
    Pre-flow = 1/2 sec.
    Post-flow = 5 sec.
    Up & downslope = 0
    Start & end amps = 5 (or lowest position)
    Amps = 85 (gives you a little more at the pedal, dial it down to suite if you want to stand on the pedal)
    #5/6 cup, with 1/4" stickout, sharpened tungsten,

    Prep metal with a quick pass with a flap wheel to get to shiny clean surface.

    After verifying that this works, move on to testing pulse.

    Two thoughts on pulse: Low speed to set cadence for adding the filler, and High for puddle control, try both.

    Low Speed Pulse:
    Freq = 1 / sec.
    Main amps = 85
    Pulse amps = 50%
    Pulse time on = 30%

    High Speed Pulse:
    Freq = 250 / sec.
    Main amps = 100+
    Pulse amps = 50%
    Pulse time on = 50%

    Report back how you did!

    Edit: Haha, Rambozo and I answering at the same time

    Cheater lenses to the rescue. You can get different strength inserts for your welding helmet. Makes all the difference for us old guys.
