Thread: PowerMaster or PowerUltra

  1. Default PowerMaster or PowerUltra

Hi folks, I'm hoping for a little advice here. I do a bit of hobby metal work with mild steel and occasionally aluminum. For the past few years a bandsaw and a MIG welder have been the primary tools, but I have always wanted a plasma cutter and maybe a TIG welder. The Multi-Process units here look great from the standpoint that I can get both the Plasma and TIG in one unit.

The question is whether to get a PowerMaster or PowerUltra. From what I can see, the major differences are AC and pulse TIG on the Master vs none on the Ultra. I'm cost conscious so the Ultra seems like the easy path, but I also don't want to cheap out on features that I may need in the future. I could weld aluminum with a spool gun on the MIG, so the AC feature may not be critical.

So, I'm hoping that others with more experience can lend some advice. Would you shell out the extra money for the PowerMaster?
    Thanks for the help

    Yes,

    I would get the PM.

The pulse is nice whether welding Chrome Moly or Aluminum.
Its extra $$ but you will not be sorry.

Thanks for the info! Everlast comes highly recommended from the pirate4x4 forums and I am just trying to finish deciding on a model before purchasing at the beginning of March. Of course now I gotta ask the question of PM205 vs PM256. For a hobby person like me that would the larger machine make a difference?

The PM205 is a great machine. It will do probably about any small shop person could ever want.

Also, we do upgrade our units down the road if you want to trade it in on newer or larger.
