It looks like someone did some poor planning when that gate and fence were first installed. It's a little goofy, to say the least. Is the gate and fence section a prefabbed cheapy home improvement type of item, or were they custom built? The cheap store bought stuff is junk! I've been having a field day (figure of speech here) with the bees in this area buzzing around when I'm working in the shop. It drives me crazy, mostly because I'm allergic to bee stings. I would have thought that all the welding and grinding you did would have scared them off, but it probably just irritated them.
