Thread: MIG wire cleaner

  1. Default MIG wire cleaner

My MIG wouldn't feed unless the tensioner was cranked all the way up. A professional welder showed me how to insert the wire through a foam ear noise plug (the kind you stick in your ear) between the MIG roll and the tensioner. The foam wipes the wire prior to entering and keeps the roller from gumming up with the protective coating on the wire. No more slippage.

Good mig wire won't have anything on it since that's what the copper is for. I've seen flux core wire with some gunk on it. I use these Click image for larger version.

Yes, one cleans and the other lubricates. Both are used at the same time. http://store.cyberweld.com/weaidlucopak.html

Looks exactly like what I saw on the Steve Bliel video. After I watched it, I ran right out and cut a strip off a scotch-brite sanding pad and attached it with a clothes pin.
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

I wouldn't want grit getting into the liner. The purpose is to clean the wire and stop copper from being rubbed off inside the liner. Two dollars and change ain't much.

These are the pads used between coats for wood finishes, they don't seem to be gritty at all. If they were , I wouldn't have chanced trashing the rollers. I agree, that isn't much to spend for the proper product, I just didn't know it existed until this thread.
