Reattaching Mario's Legs

My neighbor, Mario, asked me reattach the legs to his cast iron Rooster that had been broken.

Used my 256PP and preheated it and used 70s2 filler.

I'm sure Mario is happy he no longer has a broken cock. For cast iron a lot of times things go better with nickle rod or 309 stainless. It deals with the high carbon content of the iron better. Does it have a finish on it or just raw cast iron patina?

Thanks for the tip. This is my second time using a Tig. Got a lot to learn about technique and materials. I'll pick some 309 up.

Same guy asked me to weld these 2 door knockers shut and to put something in their mouth to be used as drawer pulls instead.

To finish answering the last comment. I don't know the finish that was put on them. It doesn't burn off the way paint would and could be powder coated.

I'm starting to really like the Tig process. Gets the heat where you need it as I mostly will need to do small detailed jobs. I did find out what an HF arc feels like as it went through my leather glove when I stepped on the pedal when I shouldn't have.

I think Rambozo said this a while back on the forum - stick welding is like using an axe and tig welding is like using a scalpel. Each tool has its specialty and with small detailed jobs I think tig really shines.
