With use, as the torch "limbers up" the arc starting MAY be a little quicker, as the parts "wear" in. But without me being there, I can only go by your description, and based on that, it seems to be working with the normal "pattern" of arc starting.

I started playing with the TIG functions today. I was doing some simple puddle exercises usng some mild sheet metal (16 gauge) and was getting some massive penetration. I'm learning to tweak the pulse settings and the rehostate on the pedal to control the pulse. It is very obvious when the pulse hits. I read in a different thread that pulse isn't advised with pedal controls on this unit when using the pedal.
Very fun machine. Very strong arc on the TIG gun. I think it will make a fun machine to learn on. I just need to learn how to dial down the setting for use with sheetmetal while using the foot pedal controls.
The pedal defeats the purpose of pulsing and doesn't allow you the "correct" context in which to learn what pulsing is.
Pro's use the foot pedal itself without pulse to create their own pulse. By using the pedal, to pulse the pulse, really doesn't teach you how to properly set, use and maximize the advantages of the pulse function itself.
