I was also shocked at HF stick price and at HD they have name brand sticks at lower prices.
Last time I purchased a 44 lb spool of wire at my LWS it was 1.02 per lb because they were trying to get rid of some left over wire that was typically purchased by a bridge fabrication company. 44.88 + tax for 0.035 mig wire was an awesome deal.
