A friend wanted a birthday present for her dog so this is what I'm making... A dog feeder.
Something simple and fun to do... It's not done yet but here are some pics of the process

Love the rocker arm feet! How are you going to do the name?
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
We decided to do a vinyl sticker.. She said it would be easier to remove when he dies!?!?!? I said, WOW, you plan ahead!

You guys are too funny. But either way, creative nice project.
I took my son to the junk yard for ideas and parts. We came back and repaired two of our cars. Will try harder next trip to think about welding not car repairs.

Thats pretty cool. There are some really good ideas in that piece such as the rocker arms. I had to take a second look to realize what they were.

Are those valve spring seats for the eyes?

Looks like retainers. I know it's probably just some tubing, but the collar looks like it could be a replacement valve seat. I'm still looking for where he hid the keepers, since he stayed with the valve train motif. I was kinda expecting the tail to be hanging off a spring.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
I wanted to do a spring on the head or tail but she didn't want that, thought it might scare the dog if it wiggled.
The eyes are just 3/4" tubing ground at an angle, the collar is tubing as well. But the valve spring seats are a good idea!!! Maybe next one...
I don't have any old parts laying around or I would make some really cool stuff. I had to pay $5 for 4 rocker arms.
My wife is in love with this thing and we have a dog so I'm just waiting on her to say, "Honeeeeyyyyy, your so Strong and Handsome...." What do you want dear?

That looks cool! What did you use for the balls on the feet, and what gauge is the sheet metal you used on the face? I have a ton of valve train left over from disassembling old heads, but I never thought of using the parts on a metal dog feeder. The comment about wanting to change the name plate when the current dog dies made me laugh. How many people actually think ahead on stuff like that? Now where to put the leftover valve guides and valves...

New Everlast PowerTig 250EX that is begging for me to come up with a few welding projects so it can stretch it's legs. Did someone say aluminum???
MISC. TOOLS:
Atlas 618 lathe
Milwaukee Porta Band with custom made stand
Dewalt 4-1/2" angle grinder
Dewalt 14" chop saw
Strong Hand Nomad portable table
Juki sewing machine I've had for years (yes I know sewing is for girls)
I used Utility grade chrome steel balls for the toes, nose and pupils. The nose has had a ton of welding Ontop of the ball to get the look. The sheet metal was 22ga. I think....it was scrap from another job. Pretty easy job, some time in it but you get to sit back n relax and not be on a deadline!

I thought the legs looked funny so I added some "hair" in the corners front and back just to fill some space.
It looks better in person than in the pics..

That is very cool! I got a piece in Colorado (I think it was there) of a dog putting a golf ball. Still have it today in my office at work!
I am new to welding art but I hope to share my metal art sculptures with everyone soon.
Well, good news.
The customer is extremely happy! She was worried her dog is would not eat out of it but he went right to it.
The bad news.... It cost $41 to ship!!!!! They paid it but Damn
