Hitachi G12SR3 4.5" angle grinder 6.0 amp

I've ran 7" on the 9" and 4" on the 4.5", but I think Ram is right. 4.5 on a 7 you will have the guard or gearbox or something in the way and not get much time out of a disc. Did not look-up a G18SS to see it was a 7" grinder.

Argh! I'm right on the cusp of buying 4 grinders, so the timing is perfect but I have a real issue with slide-switches instead of triggers /paddles. Won't turn off if it gets away from you, and can be on when you plug it in. But $100 and I'd be done...

On that note, I've had access to a shop with many grinders, and I have to say I'm hooked on having cutoff, grinder, flap disc, and wire brush always ready to grab-and-go. How about you guys? Is there a case for even more than 4? (I've seen guys that have separate sets for stainless, aluminum, and everything else... I'm not going that far yet. I'll swap out consumables between projects.)

The slide switch is the spring loaded DeWalt type, so for normal use you don't have to lock it on. You actually have to make an effort to get it to lock, so to me it's no big deal. I have some paddle, and some slide, and they both have good and bad points. I really want to try the rat tail version, next. I think it would be the best of both, but usually with a price to match. As far as the recon, the ones I got must have been just open box or something as they looked unused. I'm not sure you can ever have too many grinders. Oddly enough, it's grinding discs I use the least. Cutoff wheel, flap disc or two, wire brush, scotchbrite pad, roto-loc discs, etc.

On one project I wasted so much time swapping disks from grinder to wire brush that the logic of more than one became very obvious. Never seen a tandem or multi grinder case- I bought cheap little tool boxes for storage, and marked them outside with "grinder- cut off" and "grinder- brush" etc. The boxes hold the grinder, the tools, and spare discs all in one spot.

Just got a Hitachi G13SC2 at Princess Auto the other day, I am tired of the cheap grinders just don't have the jam this on is 11 Amps and a little bigger 5" but it was worth the difference in money just to have another good grinder and it was on sale also $69.99. from $159.99 so now I have a AEG Angle Grinder WS 1200-125 4.5" and a large 7" B&D that I have had for 30 years and still going. I don't count my air grinders as a portable grinder. The worst thing is taking good grinders to the job site and someone likes the grinder better then me GONE.

Ah, good to know. It should have occurred to me that some of these might use momentary slide switches. I'd only used one with non-momentary and decided they were all evil. ;-)

I've seen one fellow's machine shop where he had like 12 angle grinders on the wall, mostly due to separate Alum/SS/carbon setups. At the time I though it was overkill, but as I've enjoyed using a similar setup I'm not sure he had enough!


I'm not sure what you mean by "rat tail" version. Maybe like this pistol-grip?

I have (and like) this one, and the rotating handle can be convenient, but it's pretty long - I could see that being a real problem on projects with tight spaces.

I have 6 grinders to cover all my needs, but I do favor the dirt cheap Hitachi's pointed out by Jake. And like Ram, no complaints here either. So almost a year and no complaints. You can't go wrong.
