Thread: Project 1 Gate Frame - Winter Fun Contest

Default Project 1 Gate Frame - Winter Fun Contest

The local Sonic called and their dumpster gate fell apart. The gate wheel had worn completely down; allowing the bottom of the gate to drag the ground. I built a new frame from 1-5/8" galvanized fence tubing, and then I re-used the old hardware. I used my Imig 200 on this job. The frame is completely welded, the tube was cut on a 45, and notched with my harbor freight tube notch. I used a chop saw, and then I ground all of the cuts to remove the galvanize coating. After welding I touched all the welds up with cold galvanize spray.

This is the gate before I started working on it.

    Laying out the gate

I added tubes cut on a 45 and notched around all four corners.

New frame old wire! Why? Well it's a dumpster gate! And also the customer wanted to save money, and I did not want to go buy a roll of fence wire. It's also a double gate this is one side.

    Replaced the gate wheel

I finished hanging the gate at 6:30 on a Friday.

Another quality job completed by Murphy Welding. I like the 45 degree supports you added. Nice, professional project. Cheers!
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?
