There were a few minor tweaks/improvements I made to this machine before I fired it up - but I don't want to clutter this thread with too many of those details, unless a lot of people are interested in them. (Or, maybe I'll start my own thread so I don't clutter this one up too much. ) I do have a question, though: is this connector, which I salvaged from a PC power supply, the same style that Everlast uses on the back of the 250EX for the watercooler? (If it is, I'm thinking of adding it to my 250EXT)

I'd love to hear about your tweaks but you are right, better for a separate thread.

I think that connector is the same (from what I've read in another thread) but I'm not certain. I wish I had kept all of those PC power supplies I recycled ....

Rambozo's right. That's not the right one.
I have a little doubt about running a longer 10 gauge cord. If it goes longer, I'd suggest an 8 gauge (though we don't like to see this type of extension made as people have broken the switch and done damage to their units trying to do so.

Thanks for the info on the proper cooler receptacle, guys - I'll try to source the proper female version.

Given that the utility company in my locale supplies 240V (actually I just measured 240.6V at my panel), and the 255EXT is rated to operate on at least as little as 220V, I am pretty doubtful that some extra voltage drop caused by the 25 foot 10 gauge cord would be an issue. (I calculate that 25 feet of 10 gauge wire at the 255EXT's peak current draw of 33.6 amps would only drop 1.67 volts.) I also figure that an inverter power supply should be able to maintain a pretty constant/controlled output current, even without constant input voltage.

Had a chance to do some more testing with the 255 EXT. Attached is a picture of a root pass and a hot pass on some 2 inch double extra strong pipe.

Thanks for the note, Geezer! I think I'll start my own thread on my 255EXT review, and update it with all my thoughts on the unit. Am working on fabricating an adapter to hook up my 200-amp air cooled torch to it, at the moment. I'm thinking about adding on a water-cooler eventually, but don't want to rush it.

Don't forget to update your sig I like the 255EXT quite a bit. Still waiting on the proper consumable box, but I just move the 210EXT torch over.

The Super200P is a very much proven reliable and predictable workhorse. I think I will keep it for testing and comparison against the 255EXT. Only after (and if) the 255 proves superior in every way (which may or may not happen, and this was one of the reasons why I decided the 255EXT "needed" the lengthened power cable - because I already gave this upgrade to my 200P, and I would really miss not having it) would I consider parting with the "known quantity" of my 2007 200P.

Well I got the word that my PowerTig 255EXT has come in, Duncan emailed me this morning to come and get it now just 1.5 hour drive to Everlast Canada tomorrow and I can test it out Saturday or Sunday.

PowerTig 255EXT, Got it all hookup and tested all the different AC waves pulse and no pulse. They all weld very similar but different sound for each one some faster startup and faster welding. DC welds very nicely down as low as 3 amps and stable.
Setting are:
Pulse time on 40%
pulse amps 50%
pulse frequency 1.5 Hz
AC balance 38%
AC frequency 250 Hz
this was just the first test with AC. then turned on DC very ease to start and hold 3 amps. AC will light and hold at 5 amps steady once the tungsten is hot in a few seconds.

I had it set the wave form was on advanced Square and the Tig Pulse was on Advance AC it was switching form AC to DC will I was welding.

I will be doing more welding tomorrow just weld up a motorcycle case that had a hole in it rush job, forgot to take a picture of it I will email the guy and get him to take some.

First job for the PowerTig 255EXT did not clean just welded it. Removed some weld on outside to make sure the bolt fit.
Settings: Advance Square wave no pulse, AC Balance 42%, AC frequency 250 Hz., 2% Lanthanated 100% Argon @ 30 SCFH
