    You are going to want to make a mounting plate for that trailer jack. The long bolts and thin metal clamps will do nothing but bend once you have a lot of weight on it. Something like this:

    Mine isn't pretty but it works very well. Hope that helps.

    Might want to plug up the left and right rails also. Or make sure you got paint or primer in their. Water from the road will get in there and might be a problem down the road far as rust.

    How do you plan to skin it?

    With the jack mounted to the sliding part of the tongue, how are you going to take the load off so you can slide it in and out?
    Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

    I have been thinking of a solution to that. Any ideas? A tongue box will cover the tongue completely. I was thinking of maybe some kind of jack that mounted on the bottom?

    I'd say just leave the clamp on mount until you get farther along. Maybe something will present itself as you get more done. You might be able to fasten the jack to the tongue box. It's not like this trailer is going to weigh a lot. Of course you could get real tricky and put a powered jack inside the tongue box.
