What is the life difference between the good tips and the recycled ones? Is the quality of the cut the same when both are new? In a production environment or some field work where tip changing time might be an issue, I can see having the best quality. But for light use, all I really care about is cost per inch of cut. If the cheap ones have a better ROI, what do I care for parts that will be used up no matter what. It took me a long time to learn this, but sometimes "good enough", is.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
Duncan has always leaned to the the quality side (real Trafimet logo on them or good copies without (was is black wolf)). Those will last longer. I have use all ranges myself.
I've found the cheap ones work well and for the price, it's like buying a harbor freight screw driver, when it's done you pitch it and no problem.
$12 vs $40, I would try the $12, can not lie, but I bet the $40 last longer unless a scam.

That's the way I see it. If the "good" parts cost three times what the lower quality ones do, they should last more than three times as long or there's no point. It takes less than sixty seconds to change tips.
I've been using the cheap chinese consumables on a P80 torch and they have performed well for hobby work.
