Default No pilot arc in plasma or tig Mode.

    Hi
Ive had my unit for almost 2 years now. Ive had a couple minor Issues with it but managed to figure them out on my own but Im stumped with this one.

I went to use my plasma today and it would'nt light the pilot arc I tried everything I could think of (air pressure ground checked the torch leads and even took the torch apart to check the continuity of the wires going from the torch to the machine it all checked out good. The air solenoid does click on when the trigger is pressed . I also hooked up the tig torch and it wouldnt work unless it was scratch started.

I hope it hasn't crapped out on me I dont feel like spending money on shipping it out to get fixed.

It's an easy fix. You need to adjust the HF points in the front of your machine. Here's a thread with some good info http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...=adjust+points If you need more help just call the tech line.

Was thinking the same thing... I guess they can get bumped out of position easy... Let us know if it works for you. I always like to know what fixes things.

    Ok Ill try that out.

I dont really see how that would be the problem as it has worked for almost 2 years without a hitch. The contact points dont look flimsy enough to move on their own but who knows Ill check it out.

I also forget to add in the first thread its a PP256.

Could the hf points get dirty and stop arcing across?
or get dirty and create alot of current trying to jump the arc and overheat the circuit and fry something?

Now that I think about it these welders would make a perfect detonator in the wrong conditions in a garage. The HF start is basically a spark plug. I guess ill have to thing of that when using flammable liquids around the machine.

Well I feel pretty dumb now hahah.

Its been 10 min since my last post and I found out the problem.

I guess I must have bumped the pre-flow up a bit because I turned it down and voila the hf kicks in. DOH!!!!!

Well at least this thread will be around to help any other absent minded individuals in the future.

Thanks guys for the links It made it a fast fix. or should I say fast adjustment lol.

Well I am glad it was something simple. From what I have heard the points can get dirty or something caught in them to short them.

Joop don’t feel bad I did something similar. I have the PP205 and it works great, but about 4 months ago the arc would not break when I had the foot pedal back (off position). I checked everything, argon, connections, tungsten, ground, pedal, torch switch. So I called Ray told him what was going on and he said to check the end amps and I ASSURED him they were set to 0, but I would check. Sure enough the end amps was turned up a bit and when set back to 0 everything worked just fine.

Another one was the HF would not start after the second month of owning my unit, worked fine before. Again checked everything like I listed before and nothing. I turned the amps way up and nothing except one time the arc blasted out and scared the heck out of me. So after looking at all the settings for about an hour and a half I realized I did not turn on the argon. Turned it on and everything was just fine. I felt like such an idiot, but unfortunately that is how I learn most of the time.

I’m glad to hear you are up and running again.

So, I had a post all ready to go about my plasma cutter not working. I was certain that I had everything setup right, had pictures to prove it. Just looked at the pictures one last time before I hit the post button, and realized I had the torch in "+" . You shouldn't feel bad at all .... we're all pretty dumb.

And that would make the welding or cutting arc a blasting cap?
