Using Search

I just tried to do a search at work for ground cables and the results showed nothing. Last night I did the same search and 3 threads popped up so I used my phone and got the 3 threads again. I have done searches before at work and always the results showed nothing so I thought that the search function was junk but I guess it’s not. So I assume the firewall at work is blocking something, does anyone else have this problem?

My office has a fairly high and wide firewall: no social media sites, no links to videos, certain picture formats denied, no web-based email such as gmail or yahoo. But- I haven't noticed a difference in search results. Sometimes search results are different depending on whether you're signed in or not, because some forums are members only, but I don't know if that would apply... As a test I searched for "ground cable" when signed in and signed out, and got 51 hits both times. Are you filtering your search somehow?

I just searched "ground cable" and had 52 hits (one more than Dave), but I did answer hits question a bit earlier about the ground cable.

The search here should not be filtered by a firewall of any kind.

We search our site (based on what you type in the search box and click search or press enter) and display a single summary page with a count, etc. They can not alter the number of matches or page, well it would be a lot of work to do that and I doubt anyone would?

I only got 52 hits also on search

Dave our office has a similar firewall. Just re-did the search and I also got 52 results. I don't know what happened but this morning it was not working.

You probably cannot share search results like that, since who ever clicks on the link won't have the cookie needed to load the search. I clicked on the link and did not get any results.

I've run into this in problem before as well, I never sorted it out. Not that it helps you

Note the searchid number in the link, it is only valid for a certain amount of time. I have left the computer for a while, returned and hit the back button and gotten the same thing.

You guys are right. There are cookies and timers.

Best thing is to hit reload on the browser then do a search if you have been away from the computer for a bit. Would think it would work anyway as we do not block guests. We allow anyone to see the forum, member or not (outside of the lounge area that is).

Weird. But again, firewall is not the problem.

I sometimes get that same message upon login, without searching. Tried to reproduce it just now and couldn't.

One possible explanation for a low search count is, and apologies in advance because I don't *mean* to point the "operator error" finger, a typo in the search term. I got zero hits for "grund cable", "gound cable", and "ground calbe", for instance. I couldn't reproduce the three hits mentioned earlier but I did get 5 with "round cable". I mis-type stuff all the time on my mobile, those keys are way too small for size XL hands.

And no, I don't have way too much free time, gotta get to work now!

Found that out... Several times when I get on in the evening I opened up the Everlast forum... Then opened up another site and got busy for a while. I finally came back and hit New posts it comes up with no new posts. Hmm that is strange. So I wander the site and find a bunch of posts I have not read. Seems like it resets the new posts if you are on the front page for a while.

Next time that happens, you can use

Quick Links > Today's Posts

to show the threads with new posts in the last 24 hours. Sometimes the read/unread marking gets a bit weird on me, but at least all the threads are listed.
