I have been using my personal PowerARC 200 recently. I wanted to let everyone know what a true gem it is. As far as a stick welder goes, it is about as good as you can get. I have welded with "other" name brand inverter welders and the arc is as stable as anything I have seen. The amperage control is very fine, with easy amp by amp adjustment. It puts out a clean and when needed, a forceful arc, making out of position welding no problem. It has adaptive arc force control, and you can see it at work quite well. The hot start feature of this machines eases problems lighting up electrodes. Incredibly the special 6010 port works well with several rods, but the arc stability for the 6010 rod is better than any other welder I have used. Now, IF you do stick the rod, release the rod instantly or it will go "poof" into flames and turn red hot. It is a fairly quite welding machine with only the fan as noise and an arc that has a slight whine to it, similar to a muffled turbo charger sound. Its price is $299, excellent for the repair shop, industrial fabrication shop, Pipeliner or beginner. I mean it has 200 DC amps @ 60% duty cycle! But it can be easily carried over the shoulder with its carrying strap as it weighs around 30 lbs. It can also be ordered with a TIG package, again excellent for the beginner and for the true fabricator.
It really has me convinced. I was testing it with 3/8" 6 inch 60 degree bevel groove test plates, just as you would when certifying. I was comparing it side by side with a Miller XMT 304 and was getting better results for the PowerARC. Which confirms to me what I said earlier, this thing is a gem.
It is a standard IGBT unit just like the PowerTigs.
