Default 93 jeep wranger- A Rusty Heap of Fun!

Here is what I've been messing with for the past month or so. Its my buddy's 1993 jeep wrangler with a 2.5L and an automatic trans. He bought it a couple of years ago for a few hundred bucks and a yahama blaster 4 wheeler.

It was a MAJOR POS, and now its just a slight POS. The person who owned it before him gave shade tree mechanics a bad name. The fact that it drives is a miracle in its self. The original owner managed to put in an automatic transmission and didn't do a good job of it. It has no kickdown cable and leaked quarts of fluid at a time until he finally took it to a trans shop. It just ended up needing an aftermarket seal between the trans and transfer case because the transfer case was designed for the 5-speed.

It came complete with plexi glass windows and had random bunches of wires that were cut. The biggest issue to date though, was the rusted out frame in the back and the floorboard. I sadly didn't take any pics before i started cause I was too busy ripping it apart and I'm still not in the habit of doing it.

I dropped the gas tank and the rear axle and sand blasted everything to see just how bad it is. both shock mounts were held by a thin sliver of steel and just. the 10 body mounts were rotted out and had to be patched up. the frame was pretty bad around the very rear leaf spring bushings.

I got it finished up on sunday, but don't have any pictures of the end product. Ill add more info once I get the chance.

    here are some pics.

Rust free jeep frames are pretty much impossible to find around here. Everything rusts around here. They sell for top dollar about anywhere in the rust belt.

Ug... Fixing other people's mistakes is such a pain. The frame is looking good though!

I've been looking for a jeep like that. I want put the body on a rock crawler chassis, and use the VIN so I can get it tagged and inspected. I would drive it everyday!!!!
