Any hardware store / Home Deep / Lowes (or Walmart, or even Albertson's grocery for that matter) would have some manner of steel hinges. Are you looking for something specific, maybe something without the rust-proofing?

Sorry, DaveO, I was writing my reply to sportbike and got distracted for a bit and didn't see your reply by the time I submitted. I thought I saw some when searching Harbor Freight, Lowes or Home Depot but when I went back, I couldn't find them. I'm looking for simple hinges that don't cost much and definitely don't have any kind of coating. Because the enclosure will be made of material no wider than 3/4", I don't want huge flanges on them.
I'm currently looking at:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#weld-on-hinges/=hgpls7
from the source that sportbike pointed me to. I'm a newbie welder so the skinny profile of these have me a bit concerned. I'd be more comfortable welding a tab as opposed to welding so close to the hinge pin - at least until I get some experience and understand my limitations a bit better (which I hope this project will do). I haven't looked at all of the products from this supplier but most of them have tabs larger than 1" so I'll keep looking for now. If I need to, I guess I can weld then grind the overhang off.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?
