I am going to copy making of of these i have plate i need to cut also . wouldn't be hard to make . like the way its held in place by magnets . and could always make claps to do aluminum just need a long piece if box steel and make a carriage that rolls on bearings. even better i have a large welding table make a fixture that bolt to table and just slide the plate to were you want to cut it and run the torch across it .

i dont like it since still drags on piece you are cutting a fixture with a bearing slide would work nice and smooth

A bit more expensive than a straight edge and roller guide, but it sure looks like it would be rock solid and the platform should slide over the bumps pretty well.

That thing looks pretty slick. Very simple. You could add longer rods id desired as well if needed (within reason). WAY better than just 'winging it' if you have alot of cutting to do.

buy a cheap 7 1/4 in skill saw and a 10 dollar blade and you will get a better cut than with a plasma cutter. if you plan on welding any of those plasma cut edges together you are going to have to do a good job cleaning them. are real good job.

i do a good amount of field fabrication of aluminum. i don't even pack a plasma, it has it's uses but this isn't one of them.

i have the milwaukee version, and have powered through some 3/4 steel plate with it. i am getting rid of it because i purchased it without realizing that you could not set the blade for a bevel cut. if you are cutting sheet stock, light guage, this will work fine. if you start working with plate there are a lot of times where you will want a bevel so that you can lay your weld in better; in fact it's a necessity. for that reason i am getting rid of the one i have and getting a makita. may not pertain to your needs but thought i'd mention it. i don't believe the one that northern sells has that feature, unless i missed it.

need to clarify, i need the makita to bevel plate steel or cut a miter. i use a hitachi skill saw or a milwaukee worm drive for cutting aluminum sheet and plate. frankly i am doubting that i'll even bother with the makita because i prefer to use a torch to cut most of my steel. rarely does it make any difference and oxy/acetylene is a lot less expensive than those steel cutting diablo blades. right now the milwaukee is just collecting dust.
