Thread: Ford F150 vs mice!

I finally got the dash put back in today. To my surprise, the turn signals and the hvac controls now work. I don't know what I did to make them work, but I'm not complaining. I also put the exhaust back together. The guy that had it before me torched of the exhaust before the CAT thinking it was clogged. Whats funny is that he didn't realize there was another CAT in front of the one he cut off. Even so, they weren't clogged so I welded it back up. I'm tempted to replace the regular muffler with a glass pack muffler, but I'll save that for when i have nothing better to do. Once I got it quiet, I realized there is an exhaust leak on the driver's side. I haven't looked into it much yet.

I also bought a laptop based code reader from amazon for 50 dollars. Its good for almost anything 1996 and newer. It reads codes and clears them and shows live data from all the sensors. I was surprised to find that the only code I had was for the heater circuit on one of the O2 sensors. It also shows mode 6 data and emissions readiness and snapshot data.

here is the link to the code reader I bought.

I fixed a few more problems. I re spliced some wires that ran to the ignition box that the last owner fixed. He used the cheap plastic crimps. They will get and corrode in time and cause problems. I soldered them together, but didn't have any shrink tubing so I had to use some good electrical tape.

The one problem that I'm currently chasing is that the overdrive light flashed on and off when I start it up. I'm not getting any codes from the PCM. It quits blinking after 5 or 10 minutes. Once I get it legal and insured, I'm going to take it to the community college I went to and borrow a better scanner and see what I can find.

    More updates are to come.

After looking at the pic I posted, I realized that I forgot to tape a red wire that is bare.

I finally got a replacement alternator and fixed the wire going to the oil pressure sending unit. I already have a friend of my dad that really wants to buy the truck of off me. progress is still being made.

Its offical! I sold it as is to my brothers friend for 1600. I made almost about 550 in profit so I can finally look at getting a nice tig welder.

Well you got it sold... Congrats.

The wiring had me a little spooked. Easy to have a fire with that many bad wires. Yes there are fuses to protect them but some can be near the battery or alternator where they are not protected.

BTW never ever seen mice do that kind of damage before. That is very strange.

Here is one for you. I have had problems with another critter. A raccoon. He would climb under the hood and sit on the engine. I seen he was under the hood of my F250 and didn't seem to do any damage. The wife's truck the Expedition he chewed up some wiring looms but left the vacuum lines and wires alone. Then I seen the old f100.... He tore up the radiator. I talked to the rad shop and they told me the racoons like to claw up the radiators and drink the antifreeze. He said they like the taste. Wow that could get expensive. This was last summer and he hasn't been back since. Sure hope he was one of the road kills!!!!

Considering that anti-freeze makes a pretty good poison, he probably inflicted capital punishment on himself! Name: evilgrin0007.gif

Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

It looks like you were making good progress before you sold it.

That is probably the worst part. I had a similar rodent problem after letting a car sit untouched for a few months and the mess left behind was unbelievable. They chewed up all the insulation and leather and used the entire interior as one giant toilet. I managed to fix the wiring, but I ended up replacing 80% of the interior.
