New to the Forum.
My name is Robert
Just bought a Power Arc 140ST.
I put on a 110V plug. The specs say up to 100A on 110.
According to the meter, I get a max of 82A Therefore I have a difference of 18A.
I realize the meter can be off by a few Amps but certainly not 18A. Has anyone else experienced this? Perhaps my welder may need adjustment.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with a 140st running on 100v. How much max current are you getting on 110v?

Yes, in 110V, it could be the meter is off, especially on the first ones. The greater the Voltage output at your wall the higher the output in amps as well. You need a 30 amp breaker to get maximum power out of it. This sound about right for a 20 amp breaker.

How much line voltage do you have coming out of your receptacle. I just checked one of mine, got 126 volts.
Robert, by meter are talking about the display on the unit or a clamp on amp meter.
I don't have my 140 setup for 110v. I run it on 220v. I get between 245 an 250v line voltage at the recp. The display on my unit will show 142/144 amps. I don't have an amp meter., maybe some day I'll get one.

I have the same NA voltage as you. I talked with Everlast and they said my readings are typical on 110V/120VRMS.
I'm making an adapter cable so i can switch from 110V to 220V.

Yow I bet if you plug your toaster in with that baby in make real dark toast. Be better to build just the opposite as this looks dangerous to me. I know you won't but you never know when a not so bright friend shows up and look out.

It looks almost like a 30 amp twist lock, which should be sufficient, more than to say the least. That's very similar in reality to the connection system Miller uses...Have you seen the size of those pins? Small.

A 3 pin plug on the welder cord and 2 short pig tails 1 for 110 an the other for 220 would be a nice setup also.

I want to make a cable like this but am a bit lost as to where I might find the plug and receptacle (without being robbed blind). Also, been looking around and there seems to be a big jump in price from 10 gauge to 8 gauge wire ...

Looks very professional. 14 Gauge going to be OK? I need to pull my dryer away from the wall to see what kind of plug is back there. All new to me - receptacle names are all foreign sounding. Much to learn.

I would not make an extension cord out of 14 ga... That is thin... 10 gauge is good for 30 amp, 12 is good for 20 amp, 14 is for 15 amp. If it is on the welder you should be good. An appliance can have a smaller cord. But an extension cord has to be the right size. I would stick with 10ga. Once it is paid for you will be happy.

Bet it is pretty heavy too! I'm looking at the 110/220 capable welders - 140st to be exact. Hobbyist stick. Was considering if I can get away with a 50' 10 gauge extension and rig up a conversion cable like the one SeanMurphy265 showed earlier in the thread. That would give me access to my dryer receptacle if the 110v won't cut it for whatever I'm doing at the time. Don't have the means at the moment to put in a dedicated circuit.

It said for use on the miller dynasty but 14 gauge is pretty small. I see on the specs for the 140 wide open it is 25 amps @110 and 29amps for start up. Seems to be a lot of power for little wires. I would stick with a 10 gauge for an extension cord. I am pretty iffy on it for the welder cord.

Does Everlast have an opinion?????

How far away are you going to have the welder from the outlet??? If it is close 20-25 feet or so I would just buy that much 10/2 wg SO cable, wire it to the welder and put a 220 plug on it to match the dryer outlet. (sounds like that is what you are using). If it is longer I would put a 220 plug on the welder and make a 10 gauge extension cord.

25 amps on 110 will pop any 110 circuit you put it on. So you probably don't need the 110 plug on it. I would say the 10 ga with a plug will cost about the price of the MVP set up.

also on you 110 electrical in your house most likly its 14 gauge not 12 . so even if using the 110 run a new 12 or thicker for your 110 power outlet night and day difference on how the welder will perform . all my electrical in my shop 110 was 14 what a waist lol re did it all in 12 gauge

That cost about as much as the MVP plug... If it would fit the dryer outlet it sounds pretty good... Hate to get it and have to cut the end off to put another plug on it.

BTW I have a 100' of 6/3 looks like a garden hose all rolled up!!!!

what type of plug do you have for your dryer , and wears your fuse breaker panel box since some time dryer outlet are not high enough run a welder since most dryer outlet are only 30 amps in new homes

got a good deal on ebay on my wire got a 250 roll for only 160 bucks , what even more crazy all my wiring for my machine shop machines is 6 gauge around 1500 feet of it going every were this is just one of my panel boxs i have 3 of these in my shop
