Default Left or right hand ?

Do right handed people hold the tig torch in their right or left hand ?
Everyone please chime in with their own technique.

Interesting question, I always assumed that the torch would be held with the good hand for more precision control. Once the 250EX is back in stock and in my shop, I'll have to try it both ways and find out which works better.

Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

I've been holding it in the right hand but I'm gonna practice tomorrow holding the torch left handed. I think I'll have better coordination with the filler rod that way.

had to read it again to make sure what we were holding!lol Im new to tig but I do it just like using a small gas torch in my dominant side the right and feed with my left. Now as with all things there will be those Left brainers out there that can to both with = ease

I'm left-handed(write with me left hand) but I do most everything else with my right hand. I hold the torch with my right, filler in left. I don't think I'd even be able to lay a bead if I switched hands. I've never tried.

im right handed and torch in the right hand. BUT sometimes that cant be done and left hand has to be used... rule of thumb NUMBER ONE..... get comfortable.... if you feel better lefthanded, by all means do it.

I've been practicing today and left hand torch works much better for me. Now I need to work on travel speed and not drawing the filler rod back too far.

My PP256 is doing some weird things. When I weld for a while and then stop and leave the machine running to cool down, I come back to weld it won't start an arc and no HF. The gas solenoid opens but thats it.
I checked the ground and all connections but I usually just leave it off for a while and then it works again. It's not over heating or anything to do with duty cycle cause I'm only welding under 80 amps DC for less than 4 min at a time.
I think the problem may be in the 2T/4T switch. It's done this while using 4T then I switched to 2T and it worked again. I'm only using the wp-9 torch switch.... going back out to the shop now to narrow down the problem.

I did lots more welding, stopping to let the machine cool several times and it lit up fine every time. Name: nuts.gif
