Thread: Different consumables for different amp ranges?

  1. Default Different consumables for different amp ranges?

I vaguely recall reading something somewhere that one can get sub amperage consumables for any given torch amperage. Suppose you have a 60 amp torch, you could use 60 amp consumables, or maybe could get 40 amp consumables for that torch so you can run it at lower amperages on thinner metal and produce a better cut than would otherwise be possible using the 60 amp consumables at the lower amperage with the thin metal.

Did I just imagine that, or does such a thing exist?

    Thanks.

On my OLD 50 amp cutter I used switch from a 60 amp torch to a 40 amp torch on sheet metal. It has a smaller hole in the nozzle, I would run the amps down and use that. I still have the old torch.

These days, I run the 60 torch at max amps and move fast for the same results (you can lower the amps too). Funny thing, Ray and I where just talking about this two days ago. He does the same thing.

Main things, good stand-off, good speed for the thickness, and "most important" is clean DRY air.

Yes...for some torches. Depending upon which torch you have. You'll need to call in, but we keep them according to size. You'll need to specify the "smallest" size we have for whichever torch you have.

Thank you both. I will keep this in mind for after my PAC arrives.

Ask for a 1mm if we have them in stock. The ones we ship with the unit are larger and more suited for general cutting.
