    Default new here

hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I recognize a few names from WTT's forum.

I bought an I-MIG200 in april, great machine. I'm just finishing up a big cart for it and (someday soon) a 250ex.

I restore vintage cars (95% SAABs, currently) in central Texas. I work for a retired surgeon who really loves older SAABs and has brought home about 30 of them in various conditions. most are just parts cars, some we might splice together to make a solid car, but for the most part, we have about 8 drivers currently. I'm slowly repairing the barn I work in, building tools, and trying to get some of the patch panels in the car we're currently focusing on.

before moving to Texas, I worked (doing the same thing) for my dad in northern lower Michigan for roughly 10 years. I started part time in the summers when I was 11. I went to Michigan Tech for 2.5 years studying electrical engineering, but decided that engineering was going to be too hands-off for me, so I left.

I've built a number of little things with my mig in the last month including a rack for 4x8 sheet steel, a cart to hold windshields and back glass, a rack for skandix parts boxes, a push-bumper for the gator, and of course, the welding cart.

I have a whole bunch of hobbies, playing guitar, bass, or drums, building guitar amps and other electronic gadgets, replacing windows in my house (built in '46, all single pane glass), photography/graphic design, cycling(not so much recently, unfortunately), reading sci-fi, cooking, grilling, and eating food. I'm usually busy with something or other.

Welcome to the group fellow Texan. It is a good place to hang out and learn as well as teach what you might know to others.

@geezer I try. I never seem to have enough time to do indulge in my hobbies, but... I have a great job, so I guess I can't complain too much. I feel pretty lucky that I was taught a useful set of skills and have found a place to apply them.

@thurmond where in texas are you at? 'boonies' says west to me, but I've only lived here for 8 months. as far as teaching goes, I manage to do some interesting things, I'll try to take more pictures

I am about 70 miles east of Lubbock (closest full service town). Middle of nowhere but grassland, mesquite, rolling hills, wild hogs, deer, turkey, dove and quail. Closest neighbor is over 1 mile away.

you've got quail that far north over there? lots of dove here, no quail. how close did those wildfires get earlier this year? that was right over by you, wasn't it? (I'm still learning my texas geography)

Wildfires have burned all around me to within 10 miles of my ranch (somewhere near 1/4 million acres burned near me) . Always have had bobwhite and blue quail here although populations are down greatly due to the severe drought.

wow, I thought they were right over there. sounds like you got out in the clear, though.

my boss has a place down in south texas (I dont exactly know where. he calls it 'south texas.' there's a lot of texas south of us) with lots of quail. his wife won't let him hunt anymore, so he keeps nudging me to go down and cull the flock. I'm going to try my hand with the doves this fall (didn't do any hunting growing up.). if things go well, I think I might take him up on his offer. quails are some tasty little birds.

it was, for sure. we had crab cakes as an appetizer, which were solid. not the absolute best I've ever had, but definitely very good. I had the beef medallions w/ (brown) jambalaya. It's been a few weeks, I think it came with asparagus tips, too. one of the best cooked cuts of meat I've had in a restaurant. Erica had what was basically a seafood eclair, which was also really good (it was the special).

they've got a menu on their website: http://eclairbistro.com/
