It is DC only. Wave form modifies the inductance of the MIG as in waveform/slope control and the Arc force of the stick. Wire speed is in m/min. Wire size selector sets up in Synergic mode the parameters for automatic adjustment of volts as you manually increase wire speed. To use it manually and normally you just press ALT and you go into normal MIG mode. You cannot use a spool gun with it. It is designed for use with a teflon liner, has a short gun and use with 1 mm aluminum wire. This unit is purposefully designed this way and has been tested...it works largely due to the synergic function. Unit does not have a foot pedal. It uses 2T/4T control with lift start for TIG. Wire size selector does nothing and becomes inactive when in other modes. There is not enough room to provide separate solenoid circuits and is easy enough to change the gas quickly with a y valve installed. But typically this is not going to be used rapidly back and forth between processes.

can you hook a foot pedal up to it? that's going to be a bit of a deal breaker for me, personally. everything else looks great.

variable inductance is a great feature to have. my grandpa's old millermatic had variable 'slope' and I've always missed having it since.

    Thanks for clarifying.

No, the unit does not have a foot pedal. It doesn't work with a foot pedal. But many welding schools these days aren't training with foot pedals for DC tig. They are using inverter power sources such as the XMT units without the foot pedal. It creates a better, more knowledgeable welder with better techniques and understanding of amperage control. In the majority of DC tig welding, in factories, plants etc, a foot pedal can't be carried around.
