@geezer I try. I never seem to have enough time to do indulge in my hobbies, but... I have a great job, so I guess I can't complain too much. I feel pretty lucky that I was taught a useful set of skills and have found a place to apply them.

@thurmond where in texas are you at? 'boonies' says west to me, but I've only lived here for 8 months. as far as teaching goes, I manage to do some interesting things, I'll try to take more pictures

I am about 70 miles east of Lubbock (closest full service town). Middle of nowhere but grassland, mesquite, rolling hills, wild hogs, deer, turkey, dove and quail. Closest neighbor is over 1 mile away.

you've got quail that far north over there? lots of dove here, no quail. how close did those wildfires get earlier this year? that was right over by you, wasn't it? (I'm still learning my texas geography)

Wildfires have burned all around me to within 10 miles of my ranch (somewhere near 1/4 million acres burned near me) . Always have had bobwhite and blue quail here although populations are down greatly due to the severe drought.

wow, I thought they were right over there. sounds like you got out in the clear, though.

my boss has a place down in south texas (I dont exactly know where. he calls it 'south texas.' there's a lot of texas south of us) with lots of quail. his wife won't let him hunt anymore, so he keeps nudging me to go down and cull the flock. I'm going to try my hand with the doves this fall (didn't do any hunting growing up.). if things go well, I think I might take him up on his offer. quails are some tasty little birds.
