Hello everyone here,
Thought I would pop in here and introduce myself as I have been lurking the site as a non member for quite some time and just decided to join.
A bit about myself and what I do...
Welding background
I have been in the welding/fabrication industry for approx. 12/13 yrs., Have my red seal in steel fab, C/B level welding tickets and CWB cert for FCAW/MCAW in multiple positions. All of those years have been spent at a great company building mining equip, heavy duty transportation equip, etc.
Hobby background
I have a passion for making little cars with little motors go very fast. My fabrication training/experience is very helpful for this. To make small motors go fast we need 1 major item; A BIG TURBO! This means lots of fabrication (piping, turbo manifolds, intercoolers, etc.)
I currently have a miller syncrowave 180 SD to handle the welding at home in my garage, but I have really been interested in the power tig EX series and hope to see more info on the EXT series soon. I bought my syncro 6 or 7 years ago to learn on, and in the past I thought my only option to upgrade would be to drop a few thousand on a dynasty 200. I have now realized that there are better bangs for the buck and just recently decided (last week) to sell my syncrowave to buy either a powerTig 250EX or wait for the 250 EXT. I eventually would like to be watercooled as well, so I'm not sure if that would sway me to one machine or the other.
Mainly, I am looking at upgrading for 3 major things...
1) Going from transformer to inverter- would be nice to shave off at least 150 lbs and have a 1/3 of the size of the sync. This is handy for me since I often take my tig machine to my work for side jobs. Not to mention the sync needs at least a 60A timed circuit to do anything decent in AC.
2) Pulse! - Recently our company purchased a pulse pendant for our Miller XMT 350 push pull aluminum MIG machine and I must say, it is a night and day difference between it and standard CV MIG. Less warpage, less smoke (doesn't really apply to tig but just saying) and the general stability in the arc is phenomenal!. I would like to experience this with tig as I hear lots of people praising it.
3) supporting a smaller company and trying something new!
Anyhow, I have done enough babbling for my first post, just thought I would come out from hiding and say hi!
